Recovering from Pectoral Implants
Pectoral implant surgery, which normally takes an hour or two, is performed on an outpatient basis. This means you'll be able to go home after your general anesthesia wears off and after an initial recovery period. You'll need to arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after your procedure and stay with you for the first 24 hours.
You'll have dressings on your incision sites and you'll be wrapped in a bandage for a few days following surgery. This will help keep swelling to a minimum, though some swelling and bruising is routine. Your surgeon will want to see you regularly for a few weeks to ensure healing progresses normally.
You can expect minimal to moderate discomfort following your procedure. You'll have pain medication to take as needed for a few days, but most people find they tolerate post-surgical discomfort well. You can plan to return to light activities within a few days to a week, and resume exercise and other higher-impact activities in a month to six weeks. For most patients, their incision scars look pink for several few weeks and gradually fade to be very inconspicuous. You should be aware, however, that all scars are permanent and their ultimate form is not completely predictable.
You may experience some numbness in the skin surrounding your incisions. This is normal and almost always subsides within several weeks. Occasionally some degree of reduced sensitivity is permanent.
