How is this procedure done?

We perform the procedure by making a small incision in the armpit, creating a pocket under the chest muscle, and placing a semi-solid, FDA-approved silicone implant inside. The technique we use will ensure an enhanced but very natural looking outcome. There is no risk of implant leakage.

How do I prepare for pectoral implant surgery?

Please schedule a consultation with us to learn more about the procedure and work with your surgeon to make the decisions that are right for you. For instance, your physician will show you sample implants and recommend the appropriate size for your needs.

During your consultation, share information with your surgeon about medications you're taking and any health conditions you may have. Your surgeon will give you specific advice about how to prepare for your procedure. Most often they will advise you to suspend workouts for several days prior to surgery. You'll also be instructed to stop taking aspirin and diet pills for two weeks before surgery. Other instructions may involve eating and drinking the day before, alcohol consumption, and washing with anti-bacterial soap.

Smoking can interfere with the healing process and cause increased risk of complications. You must stop smoking altogether at least two weeks before surgery and for two weeks following surgery.

How long does the surgery take?

The procedure usually takes one to two hours.

What type of anesthesia is used?

General anesthesia is usually required for pectoral implant surgery. At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, anesthesia is performed by a Professional M.D. Anesthesiologist.

When can I return home?

Pectoral implant surgery is done on an outpatient basis. You'll be able to return home the same day your procedure takes place. You'll need to arrange for someone to pick you up after surgery and stay with you for 24 hours as a precaution.

All Patients must schedule check-up appointments for the following times:
  • 1 day
  • 1 week
  • 1 month
  • 3 months
  • 6 months
  • 1 year

When will I be able to return to normal activity?

Just as with any surgical procedure, you'll return to your activities gradually. You should be able to take on light activities in a few days to a week, and resume more strenuous activities, such as working out and heavy lifting, in about six weeks.
