How does NannoLight Remove Hair?

The NannoLight is an intense pulsed light (IPL) system that uses light to target certain chromophores in hair while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Using this cutting-edge technology, and permanently reduce hair growth with little to no downtime. Our clients often return to work immediately following treatment!

How Does NannoLight Intense Pulsed Light Perform Permanent Hair Reduction?

NannoLight is capable of treating wide varieties of skin concerns for a variety of skin types. For hair removal, light form the pre-selected spectral bandwidth is absorbed by the brown and black melanin pigment in the hair follicle and converted to heat. The heat permanently disables the hair follicle (and prevents further regrowth) by coagulating the bulge and bulb od the follicle.

How many NannoLight treatments will I need?

Since each treatment typically disables about 20% of the hair follicles, most "good candidates" (individuals with dark hair and fair skin) require a minimum of five treatments for sufficient long-term results. Due to individual characteristics, it is impossible to predict how many treatments you will need to be satisfied.

Will the NannoLight procedure be uncomfortable?

Most patients find the process surprisingly comfortable. Hair removal treatments are so quick and easy, the comfort factor is generally not an issue with most patients. The comfort level of the treatment varies from person to person based on a number of factors including the location on the body and face. For more sensitive individuals and areas, a 4% topical anesthetic gel can be applied one hour before treatment.

What is involved in the NannoLight procedure?

A gentle flash of intense light is quickly pulsed over the treatment area every three seconds until the area has received an adequate "dose" of light energy. Provided the hair contains a sufficient deposit of brown or black melanin pigment, the treatment will generally stop further hair growth for several weeks or months and permanently disable a certain percentage of the hair follicles in the area.

Can NannoLight treatment be done on any part of the body?

The only area that is typically not treated in the area underneath the eyebrows, which is determined to be too close to the eyes for safety.

Will all of my hair be removed?

Less hair (typically about 20% less) typically grows back after each treatment, and the hair tends to be finer and lighter in color also. Many individuals experience permanent reduction from 70% to 80% and even higher after from five to ten treatments. Most patients are left with a certain percentage (perhaps 10% to 20% of the original amount) of remaining hairs in the treatment area, which are either too fine or too light in color for the NannoLight to disable.
